Malta ISD students are scheduled for physical education on a daily basis for 45 minutes.
Malta ISD board policy requires students in kindergarten through grade 5 to participate in moderate or vigorous daily activity for at least 30 minutes throughout the school year. If this is impractical due to scheduling concerns or other factors, the district may as an alternative require a student in K-5 to participate in moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least 135 minutes each week.
Malta ISD board policy requires students in grades 6 – 8 to participate in moderate or vigorous daily physical activity for at least 30 minutes for at least four semesters.
SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL (SHAC)
The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) met two times in 2007-2008. Malta ISD is in compliance with food services and vending machine guidelines. Texarkana Independent School District (TISD) provides food services and student vending machines are not available.
TOBACCO
Smoking or using tobacco products is prohibited on all district-owned property and at school-related or school-sanctioned activities, on or off campus. Students are prohibited from possessing tobacco products at a school-related or school-sanctioned activity on or off school property. This includes all buildings, playground areas, parking facilities, and facilities used for athletics and other activities. Notices stating that smoking is prohibited by law and punishable by a fine are displayed in prominent places in all school buildings.
